The culture & sport curriculum forms an essential part of our school programme. We have allocated cultural & sport periods each week that will form part of our Personal Development Programme. We want to create a platform for all our students to enable them to express themselves in a creative way using different genres. The sporting mission of MCS is to provide coaching and sporting/practice facilities for the learners to enable them to play as true sportspersons in “the spirit of the game”.
The Music Programme at MCS is unique and incorporates the fundamental principles of (a) the Orff method of music education developed by Carl Orff, twentieth century German music educator and composer, and of (b) sound-based entrainment techniques to facilitate body-brain integration. This helps optimise learning in other subjects by developing both the detail and the whole-picture brain. The Programme culminates with several in-school concerts and participation in the annual Hartbeespoort Kunstefees. A set of marimbas has been introduced into the programme.
Physical Education (Grade 3 – Grade 7)
The PE Programme is designed to provide purposeful activities that will develop fundamental motor skills. These form the building blocks for development of skills in areas such as dance, drama, soccer, athletics, games, ball handling and swimming. House Team sports events such as athletics and swimming are held annually. Participation from all the learners is encouraged as a way to build team spirit.
(Grade R and Grade 1) Playball classes are held once a week during school time for the Grade R and Grade 1 learners. These classes provide assistance in gross and fine motor coordination as well as general sports skills.
We encourage our students to participate in at least one cultural activity & in at least one summer and one winter sport. These co-curricular/extra mural activities, which are also cost inclusive, are:
